The London Paralympic pair of Hilton Langenhoven and Tebogo Mokgalagadi return from the Desert Challenge Games in the United States with an abundance of medals.

Between them, they won four gold medals and were unbeaten during the Games in Arizona.

Langenhoven, who won 400-metre silver in London, leapt 6.74m to take the long jump gold against a quality field of close to 30 competitors, including established stars, Elexis Gillette, Tyson Gunter and Markeith Price.

Later in the day it was Mokgalagadi (silver in the 100m in London) who cruised to victory in the 200m (30.31sec). After his victory the Free State athletes admitted that he was actually coasting during his event, in order to save his best for the 100m event.

As the afternoon cross-wind picked up Langenhoven lined up for the 100m where he won in 11.24sec, beating 2008 Beijing Paralympic gold medallist Josiah Jamison in the process.

Mokgalagadi then picked up the fourth gold medal for South Africa as he won the T35 100-m dash in a time of 13.71.

Summed up coach Ray Julius who accompanied the two athletes to the States: “Both athletes would once again like to express their gratitude to SASCOC for their assistance in making this trip a very successful one.”

Next up are events in Grosseto, Italy near the end of the month, followed by a meeting in Germany.
