Team South Africa celebrated yet another two more medals at the Paralympic Games in London on Sunday, taking the medal tally into double figures.

Swimmer Charl Bouwer won silver in the 100-metre freestyle final, setting an African record of 52.97 seconds in the process.

Later in the evening, Oscar Pistorius took silver in the men’s T44 200-metre track final with a time of 21.52 seconds, slightly slower than his world record 21.30 he ran the previous night. T44 class athlete Arnu Fourie took fourth spot with a world record of 22.49.

SASCOC Chief Executive Officer Tubby Reddy welcomed the latest medals. “It’s good to see the trend continuing. We may not have got gold tonight but Charl and Oscar are to be congratulated for their great efforts and well done to Arnu for his world record.”

South Africa have now won two gold, four silver and four bronze medals after four days of competition. In Beijing four years ago they ended with 30 medals.

The Paralympics end on Sunday 9 September.
