Claude Eksteen took full advantage of the missing ÔÇ£ big namesÔÇØ at the sixth leg of the BSG/Energade Sprint Series Triathlon in Port Elizabeth on Sunday with a comfortable win.

Eksteen, Abrahm Louw and Rudolf Naude were first out of the water in the 600-metre swim (8min 59sec) with Richard Murray ÔÇô just back from a bout of flu ÔÇô a mere 16 seconds adrift.

The flu then took its toll on Murray as he had, by his standards, a poor bike leg. Usually this is one of his strengths, but on this occasion it was clear he did not have the ÔÇ£legsÔÇØ and lost two minutes on the leading trio who screamed around the 20 kilometre bike leg in 33:26.

Eksteen then had the fastest run leg of the leading trio and finished almost 30 seconds ahead of Abrahm Louw, with Rudolf Naude rounding out the podium.

Missing in action were Erhard Wolfaardt and Hendrik De Villiers who were competing at the Africa Cup in Pretoria on the same day.

Carlyn Fischer’s swim and run legs were enough to see her take the laurels on the day in the absence of Andrea Steyn who was doing national duty at the Africa Cup in Tshwane.

Fischer had a 10sec advantage over Carla Van Huysteen after the swim. Van Huysteen though made up for it on the 20km bike, clawing back  nine seconds. Van Huysteen though had no answer to the running prowess of Fischer who covered the 5km run in 19:39 to the 19:54 of Van Huysteen.
