Brief career description: Started rowing in 1989 as a schoolboy first competed for South Africa in 1993 and have competed internationally every year since then

Favourite sports moment: Rowing at the Olympic Games with Shaun and making the A final in a crew that was so new

Biggest sporting disappointment: World Champs 2006

Biggest sporting ambition: Gold at the Olympics

What do the Olympics and Paralympics mean to you? The Olympics are the ultimate in rowing and it is a platform for us to fly our flag as high as we possibly can for the world to see. As a rowing athlete it is the focus of many years of training , one week to shine by merging  our boat skills and Physical conditioning into boat speed.

Where do you live? Johannesburg

Did you grow up with a role model? If so, who? The great British Olympian Sir Steve Redgrave was my role model

How many hours a day requires training? I train on average four-and-a-half hours a day

What special diet is followed, if any? I try to stay away from sugar

Do you have a motto? If so, what? I love what I do and want to be the best I can be

What is the best sports book or movie that you have read or watched? Have read lots of biographies that athletes have written all great as each athlete has something to offe . The speech in  Any Given Sunday gets me going as life is about inches
