Gideon Sam was born on the 19 August 1949, Cape Town, South Africa. Gideon’s Education Background: Bachelor of Arts – History and Languages and Bachelor of Education, University of Fort Hare; Bachelor of Arts in Sports Management, University of Johannesburg. Gideon’s involvement of sports stretches over more than three decades. He was an athlete at school and college level and played rugby at school, college, university, club and district levels. Gideon’s administration of sport includes; President/General Secretary/Committee member at club/provincial and national level; Victoria East Rugby Union; Victoria East Council of Sport; Amateur Swimming Association of Border; Golden Lions Rugby Union; South African Rugby Union; National Sports Council; South African Sports Commission; Swimming South Africa; National Lotteries Distribution Fund; Vice President of the Commonwealth Games Federation and IOC Commission member of Sport and Environment.
