Sam’s words of inspiration for World Games sevens

The national rugby sevens side turned out for their first training session on Monday ahead of their campaign at the 2013 World Games in Cali, Colombia.

And if ever they needed further inspiration, there was SASCOC President Gideon Sam, as ever, hands-on to give them some words of encouragement. SASCOC CEO, Tubby Reddy, also watched the team go through their paces.

We as SASCOC are now starting a long relationship with you as the sevens players and we will be moving together towards a podium finish at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Sam told the gathered players, ahead of their session in sweltering 30+ Celcius conditions.

I was speaking to the victorious Chinese Taipei tug-of-war management squad and they told me that they took their girls away for four solid months of preparation leading up to the World Games. This is the sort of experience that well need.

As the sports movement we will sit down and plan with you the route to our podium finish.

What a huge motivation it is to stand the chance of becoming the first rugby sevens side to bring back and Olympic medal. From me at SASCOC, our doors are always open and we will give our sevens side the best they deserve.

Responding to Sams address, captain Kyle Brown said: Weve seen for ourselves what a job SASCOC do and many thanks to the President for coming out here today Its a great extra touch.

We look forward to a long road ahead.

The sevens rugby side open their campaign against the host national Colombia and also play Hong Kong and Canada on Thursday.
