Team SA safely in Colombia for World Games campaign

The bulk of Team South Africa have arrived here safely for the 2013 World Games which get underway on Thursday.

The team touched down on after a lengthy trans-Atlantic flight from Madrid, Spain with national carrier Avianca just before 8pm local time.

That brought to an end more than 24 hours of travel and made up of three international flights.

South Africa will be represented in nine different sporting codes, ranging from aerosport to waterskiing/wakeboarding, in the Games which last till 4 August, and are effectively the Olympics for the non-Olympic sporting codes.

Alll codes are now at the team hotel in central Cali, excepting for aerosport, orienteering and tug-of-war ÔÇô those team members arrive later as their events only start in the latter half of the Games.

Monday will be spent recovering from the accumulated jet lag and at the same time sorting out official accreditation.

The lifesaving contingent however, will train on Monday morning as their first day of competition already gets underway on Friday, a day after the opening ceremony.

At the last World Games in Kaohsiung City, Team South Africa won three medals (silver and two bronze) in barefoot waterskiing, lifesaving and sevens rugby.).
