SASCOC support Oscar, look forward to rest of Games

Team South Africa and SASCOC have welcomed Paralympic silver medallist Oscar Pistorius’s apology for his initial reaction after the T44 200-metre track final on Sunday evening.

Pistorius ended second to Brazil’s Alan Oliveira and later raised concerns over the length of prosthetic blades used by some competitors.

Said SASCOC Chief Executive Officer Mr Tubby Reddy on Monday: “We note and welcome Oscar’s apology for anything said in haste, and we obviously fully understand that he was emotionally upset immediately after such an important event here in London.”

Reddy went on to say that Pistorius will at all times have the full backing of both SASCOC and that of Team South Africa for the remainder of the Paralympics and beyond.

“We again congratulate Oscar on winning his silver medal on Sunday.

“As always we are fully supportive of all our athletes and will engage through the official channels from the National Paralympic Committe in South Africa to the International Paralympic Committe (IPC) on any concerns that Oscar may have.

“We are also happy to see that Oscar is moving on and focusing on the other events that he is yet to run here in London.”
