President’s Voice ÔÇô Gideon Sam

We are now getting ever closer to stepping on that plane bound for London. Unbelievable really when you think back to when this Olympic mission started.

Sure there are still some loose ends to be tied up, but the bulk of the work from our side has been covered. ┬áAll that is left now, is for the athletes to descend on London and bag those required medals ÔÇô as many as possible.

The greatest part of my programme has been to engage the task team rolling out the SA Coaches Framework in the provinces. Last week it was the turn of Free State followed by Mpumalanga. It is now clear to us that we still need to work harder on making our sport structures effective and to quickly work towards a system that will be understood by all involved in South African sport.

The enthusiasm in the provinces that we have visited so far is great, but we need more people to come forward to harness that enthusiasm before we lose it.

The task ahead of us is immense because for too long have we have had Federations battling on their own with limited resources trying to have an effective, cohesive and credible coaching system.

The team under the guidance of SASCOC is working hard to table far-reaching proposals at the November Coaches Conference. This will be an important conference as we will host the International Coaches’ Conference in 2013.

For every step of the way in finalising this SA Coaches Framework, we are calling on all interested parties to make inputs into this process.

Finally I’m really looking forward to our farewell banquet next week and then the send-off at the airport and invite the South African public to join at the airport as we bid our team bon voyage to the greatest sporting spectacle of them all. We need (and deserve) every bit of support that we can get from the nation.
