North Gauteng provincial champs

The North Gauteng Provincial ┬áTarget Championships will be contested on 18-19 February. It’s an annual archery competition hosted by North Gauteng.

The tournament is sanctioned by the International Federation, FITA and any records or achievements shot at this archery competition will receive international recognition.

In addition, it is at this tournament that archers from this provinces would be able to qualify for provincial colours. Scores shot at this tournament will be taken into account when calculating the average scores for team selection to represent SA at the Senior, Junior and Para Archery World championships later this year.

On the first day each archer will shoot 144 arrows from distances ranging from 90m for men and 70m for women and closer distances for the respective junior categories.

On the second day each archers will shoot 72 arrows – men and women at 70 metres and juniors at closer distances as per their age grouping. The score from these arrows will be used to seed the archers Based on the seeding, archers then go into head to head matches where the top ranked archer shoots against the lowest ranked archer, the second ranked shoots against the second lowest etc…..

The head to head matches for recurve archers consist of five sets of three┬áarrows each – in each set two points are awarded for a win, one for a draw and┬á 0 for a loss. The first archer to reach a score of six is the outright winner.

Should the score be tied at the end of the third set there is a one arrow shoot out and the archer whose arrow is closest to the centre is declared the winner.

The head to head matches for compound archers consist of five sets of three arrows each. At the completion of the 15 arrows the archer with the highest score is the outright winner. Should the score be tied at the end of the fifth set there is a one arrow shoot out and the archer whose arrow is closest to the centre is declared the winner.
