Fourie finds form in Denmark

By Mark Etheridge

United States-based Lehann Fourie warmed up for the upcoming African Athletics Championships in Nairobi, Kenya with a win in Denmark on Wednesday.

Fourie, 23, clocked 13.65 seconds to win the 110-metre hurdles event at the Aarhus Festival Hurdles competition and will be well pleased with his form, especially after his 13.80 third placed finish in Karlstadt, Sweden last week.

Local athlete Andreas Martinsen was second in 13.96, the first time a Danish athlete has broken the 14-sec barrier in 14 years. “You can see by the fact that the second guy ran 13.96 that it wasn’t a major event,” said Fourie on Thursday. “But I’m happy that I seem to be coming right before African Champs in Kenya, and for the rest of the season.”

Fourie had complained after his Karlstadt event that he was feeling tired after a tiring start to his season, although a period where he has already run 13.44sec in the United States this year. “I’m still not quite up to pace in my goals for the year but I’m feeling more positive now.”
