CGE: Come clean

Johannesburg – Individuals at Athletics South Africa should confess their involvement in the Caster Semenya saga, the Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) said Tuesday.
“Although an apology is warranted under the circumstances, the central issue, however, is Ms Semenya who has suffered an enormous amount of public humiliation and trauma,” said Javu Baloyi, spokesperson for the CGE.
“The suspension of the ASA board and the sudden apology by the entire board should not be seen as vindication or as way of covering up for those at the wrong end of this debacle,” Baloyi told news agency Sapa.
The CGE said the International Athletics Association Federation (IAAF) has significantly infringed Semenya’s rights and called on SASCOC to extend their engagement to the IAAF on this matter and for SASCOC to avoid a public spat between itself and ASA.
“This seeks to undermine or divert attention from the real issue which is the handling of the gender verification tests and the subsequent denials thereof,” said Baloyi.

This is a great concern for all futher athletes. I personally am very worried as my daughter participates in athletics and is one of the tops. What does the futher hold for all the young athletes of our country. So many of them have set high goals for themselves – Olympics etc and now this! This is a little upsetting for them. Come on SA do something for our athletes please don’t let them down!
